Summary of the “Views and Values of Nature” 2024 Course

The short-term course “Views and Values of Nature” is an innovative and beneficial educational program that combines the practice of environmental knowledge, initiated and implemented by SOLEN Environmental Solutions Joint Stock Company. . This course provides foundational knowledge about nature and the natural environment, helping participants gain a deeper and more accurate understanding of the true value of nature and the surrounding living environment. It aims to inspire and promote practical actions among participants to protect the environment and conserve natural resources. The course topics are flexibly chosen to suit the participants’ demographics, their objectives, and the timing of the course.

The course was first held in mid-September 2023, attracting the interest and participation of many individuals from different regions (Hanoi, Hue, Ho Chi Minh City, etc.) and various countries (Indonesia, Myanmar, Laos, etc.). In its inaugural session, the course focused on environmental philosophy with direct participation from Dr. Layna Dross, Assistant Professor at the University of Tokyo (Japan). Building on the success of the 2023 course, it was organized again in early August 2024 with lectures delivered by Dr. Moe Thazin Shwe, an Environmental Expert and Research Associate of SOLEN from Myanmar. This year’s topic centered on climate change and the role of mangroves in combating climate change.

The course is designed with two main components:
(1) Lectures on the environment and nature,
(2) An eco-tourism trip. After being equipped with basic theoretical knowledge about nature and the surrounding environment through the lectures, participants will have the opportunity to experience real-world conservation areas to gain a vivid and close understanding of the value of nature.

1. Lectures on Environment and Nature
The course includes a series of in-depth lectures on perspectives and values of nature, covering topics from environmental conservation theory, the importance of biodiversity, to current global environmental challenges. The speakers shared their knowledge along with inspiring stories, providing participants with a deeper and more comprehensive understanding of the relationship between humans and nature.

Number of Participants: Both online and in-person, totaling 14 (including: full-time employees and interns; some members of the IPC, and other members who learned about the lectures through SOLEN’s communication channels)

2. Eco-Tourism Activities at Xuan Thuy National Park – Nam Dinh
One of the highlights of the course was the field trip to Xuan Thuy National Park (Nam Dinh). This year’s program attracted participants ranging from elementary school students to university students and working professionals. During the trip, participants engaged in environmental protection activities such as tree planting and trash collection. These activities not only raised awareness about the importance of environmental conservation but also provided participants with hands-on experience, allowing them to make a positive contribution to the sustainability of the local ecosystem.

This year, SOLEN successfully planted a total of 150 trees at Xuan Thuy National Park.

3. Tree Donation Activity
In addition, the course organized a tree donation activity to plant at Xuan Thuy National Park. The enthusiastic contributions from participants greatly enhanced the greenery and supported efforts towards the conservation and sustainable development of the area.
