Geological Engineering Department is one department at STT – Migas (Balikpapan).
Established in 2003, Balikpapan School of Petroleum Technology STT – Migas (Sekolah Tinggi Minyak dan Gas bumi) is an oil and gas training school located in the city of Balikpapan in the Kalimantan region. The university was established due to the potential of natural resources in the eastern part of the Kalimantan region (East Kalimantan province) and the city of Balikpapan is known as the “city of oil”. With the rapid development of technology, the natural potential of the province and the need for experts in the oil and gas field in East Kalimantan province, the establishment of STT – Migas is necessary with the desire to provide local human resources in this field.
The school has five main faculties:
– Petroleum Engineering: Focusing on science in the field of oil and gas and the potential development of geothermal and renewable energy;
– Oil and Gas Industry: Focusing on systems, processes, management systems, and operations of the oil and gas and renewable energy industries;
– Petroleum metrology and electronic engineering: Focusing on electrical, electronic, and automation equipment in the oil and gas industry and renewable energy;
– Petroleum processing techniques: Focusing on oil and gas processing techniques, petroleum products, renewable energy, and support for start-ups;
– Geological engineering Department: Focusing on the science and technology of geology, mining, geoengineering, geological energy, and disaster mitigation.
The Geological Engineering Department received its operating license on December 28th, 2018, and began accepting students in the academic year 2019 – 2020. The Geological Engineering Department establishes to train creative, well-skilled students and enthusiasm for geology science and technology, including areas: energy and mineral resource utilization, geoengineering, disaster damage reduction, and environmental problems.
Vision
To become the preeminent geology bachelor’s degree program in energy, geosciences, and technology in Kalimantan by 2025.
Mission
– Organizing training activities in geosciences and technology with outstanding research in energy application, mineral resources, engineering geology, disaster mitigation, and other environmental problems;
– Create creative, skilled, and competitive human resources with foreign experts in geology;
– Cooperate with organizations, companies, and universities in geological science and technology appropriate to the faculty.

STT Migas and SOLEN Collaboration:
The Geological Engineering Department of STT Migas has a strong educational background in geology and recently noticed environmental problems from this mining activity. So they are doing their best to bring knowledge and experience in environmental management and pollution control to deal with those emerging issues. SOLEN specializes in the field of environment, are trying to expand our knowledge and experience in the industrial fields, especially in the oil and gas sector. The cooperation of STT Migas and SOLEN expect to create a good opportunity for experts, researchers, and students in Indonesia and Vietnam to delve into the search for sustainable solutions for pollution control and environmental management. of the oil and gas industry. The two sides wish to start the first activity by sending intern(s) from SOLEN (Vietnam) to STT Migas (Indonesia) under joint research activities from the last quarter of 2022.
