REPORT SUMMARY OF THE CURRENT SITUATION OF PLASTIC WASTE IN VIETNAM

In recent decades, plastic waste has become a global problem, seriously threatening human habitats as well as natural ecosystems. In particular, in developing countries such as Vietnam, this problem is exacerbated when the process of urbanization and economic development is rapid but not accompanied by appropriate environmental protection measures.

Plastic waste, with its hard-to-decompose properties, has been causing serious consequences. It's easy to see the presence of plastic in every aspect of our daily lives, from everyday items such as plastic bags, bottles, and disposables, to other industrial and consumer products. However, the lack of control in the production, consumption, and treatment of plastic waste has led to an alarming situation of environmental pollution. Millions of tons of plastic waste are flooding land, rivers, and oceans, creating unpredictable ecological disasters.

The problem of plastic waste in Vietnam is a significant challenge, requiring the cooperation of the whole society, from the government, organizations, businesses to individuals. In order to contribute to raising awareness and encouraging practical
actions, this report will briefly but comprehensively present the current situation of plastic waste in Vietnam. Thereby, we can better identify the root causes, the consequences it causes, as well as possible solutions to mitigate and control this problem.
