Plastic-waste-recycled Mozowood: Online Discussion with the Japanese Manufacturer

(Hanoi, 08:00 AM, July 11st, 2023) An online discussion with the manufacturer of the plastic-waste-recycled Mozowood was held as scheduled. Joining it there are Mr. Olivier and Mr. Najila from INSEE Ecocyle (Siam City Cement (Vietnam) Co. Ltd.), Mr. Le Minh and Mr. Kitai from Guun Co. Ltd. (Japan), and Mr. Hung from SOLEN (Vietnam).

This was the second online meeting, after the first one held on January 16th, 2023, to help Vietnam sides to understand more about Mozowood – a synthetic wood made from recycled plastic waste by Japanese technology.

The input materials for the production of Mozowood is only plastic waste, no other ingredients such as wood chips and textile fibers, and is completely free of natural wood ingredients. However, Mozowood is a product that has full characteristics as a wood material, meeting diverse needs in daily life. For every ton of Mozowood material produced, nearly 20 tons of old trees can be saved, limiting the exploitation of forests for timber. This wood-imitation composite resin is a granular elastomer that can be applied to any standard woodworking method. For more details of Mozowood, please click here.

SOLEN is the first company in Vietnam spending effort in searching for ways to bring the Mozowood product into Vietnam market. One way to do that is just importing the Mozowood product from the Mozowood manufacturer in Taiwan. The price of Mozowood, however, is quite high comparing to other existing woods in the market. Moreover, doing this way is not perfect solution to solve the hot issue of plastic waste in Vietnam. Another way is to bring the production technology of Mozowood into Vietnam, establish its manufacturing facility(s) and produce it in Vietnam locally. By doing that, we could reduce the production cost to have an affordable price and could help Vietnam deal with the plastic waste issue.
