Xuan Thuy National Park: Introduction

Possessing a prime location in Nam Dinh, only 150km southeast of Hanoi, Xuan Thuy National Park possesses an extremely diverse ecosystem thanks to the fertile alluvium of the Red River. Let’s learn about this place together!
1. Formation of Xuan Thuy National Park
Since January 1989, Xuan Thuy has been the first wetland in Southeast Asia to join the RAMSAR International Convention (Convention for the Conservation of Wetlands of Special International Importance as the Homeland of Vietnam). waterfowl – Ramsar, Iran, 1971). In January 2003, the Prime Minister signed Decision No. 01/2003/QD-TTg officially upgrading Xuan Thuy Wetland Nature Reserve to Xuan Thuy National Park. In December 2004, UNESCO continued to recognize Xuan Thuy National Park as the core area of the World Biosphere Reserve in the inter-provincial coastal area of the Red River Delta.


2. Ecosystem
Xuan Thuy National Park has a total area of 12,000 ha in the estuary of the Red River, located mostly in Giao Thien commune, Giao Thuy district, Nam Dinh, stretching through Con Lu, Con Ngan, and Con Xanh. Particularly, the core area is 7,100 ha, which is home to 120 species of plants, more than 500 species of animals, and 30 species of reptiles and amphibians. The combination of the fertile alluvium of the Red River and the coastal area has turned this area into a nature reserve with many unique habitats of a wetland ecosystem with many wildlife, flora, and fauna. rare migration.
Every year, from October to March next year, tens of thousands of migratory birds from the North choose Xuan Thuy National Park to stop and feed. Among more than 200 species of birds present in the national park, there are many bird species listed in the international red book. At times, Xuan Thuy National Park is home to more than 40,000 species of birds. In addition, Xuan Thuy’s tiger and parrot forest is home to many species of birds, sea cats, sea foxes, otters, etc. Under the water are all kinds of shrimp, fish, crabs, snakes, clams, cockles… rich food for birds. In the season of black tiger flowers, the cool fragrance is the convergence of honey bees.


3. Culture
