A number of supported trash cans for Hue city to deploy and implement the program of classifying domestic solid waste at source in the locality.

Hue City People’s Committee (Thua Thien – Hue province) has just coordinated with the Norwegian International Organization for the Conservation of Nature (WWF Norway) to hold a ceremony to hand over and receive the garbage container.

The project “Hue – Plastic reduction city in Central Vietnam” funded by Vietnam World Wildlife Fund, Inc. (WWF) was approved in early 2022 with the aim of helping Hue become greener and cleaner. The project has completed phase 1 currently. Hue City People’s Committee is actively coordinating with WWF – Vietnam to complete the adjustment and supplement of documents and submit them to the People’s Committee of Thua Thien – Hue province for approval as a basis for project implementation in phase 2.

Within that framework, the project has supported Hue with 468 garbage storage bins to deploy and implement the program of classifying domestic solid waste at source in the city.
At the ceremony to receive the garbage container, Mr. Tran Song said that Hue appreciates and acknowledges the support of WWF-Norway, WWF-Vietnam, the Norwegian government and people for choosing Hue as the 7th city in Vietnam and the 32nd in the world to participate in this network of cities to reduce plastic. Next time, Hue city will actively coordinate, accompany and support the project to achieve high efficiency and complete goals, so that Hue is always green – clean – bright – smart – environmentally friendly, and associated with the sustainable interests of the people.

The project “Hue – Plastic reduction city in Central Vietnam” is funded by WWF with the following objectives:

  • Hue City People’s Committee commits to turning Hue into a plastic reduction city.
  • Reduce consumer demand and the amount of plastic waste by the target groups.
  • Increase the percentage of households accessing waste collection services in the target areas.
  • Improve waste recycling rates among stakeholders in the area.
  • Improve the quality of landfill management in the project area

Thereby, the image of the Hue city with the title: “ASEAN Environmentally Sustainable City”; The “National Green City” and “Hue City of Heritage, culture, ecology, landscape, and environmental friendliness” will continue to be promoted in the eyes of international tourists and friends, improving conditions people live and work, promote local socio-economic development and contribute to the implementation of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and Vietnam’s international commitments.
