Current status of coastal pollution in Xuan Thuy National Park – Nam Dinh

1.Xuan Thuy National Park – Nam Dinh
Xuan Thuy National Park in Giao Thuy district, Nam Dinh Province is a large expanse south of the Red River estuary. In 1988, Xuan Thuy National Park was officially recognized internationally as a Ramsar site. In October 2004, UNESCO recognized Xuan Thuy National Park as the No. 1 important Red River Delta biological reserve area. The park has a conservation area of 7,100 hectares, including the alluvial areas of Con Lu, Con Ngan, Con Xanh, and the buffer zone. There are 192 species of higher plants present in Xuan Thuy National Park, belonging to 145 genera of 60 families, of which nearly 20 species are adapted to water conditions to form a mangrove forest system many hectares wide. The forests here contribute to settling alluvium to create new alluvial grounds, grow rice gardens, and provide food for aquatic species while also playing a role in the ecological balance of the area. The floating and benthic fauna here have over 500 species.

2. Current status of coastal pollution in Xuan Thuy National Park – Nam Dinh
During the trip to Xuan Thuy National Park – Nam Dinh in September 2023, with the purpose of practical sightseeing and environmental protection. SOLEN has carried out environmental protection activities such as planting trees in mangrove forests and picking up trash along the coast. Through trash-picking activities along the coast, we have collected a significant amount of trash. Most types of trash are Plastic bottles; Plastic bags; Fishing gear such as: Fishing nets, floats, sponges; … These types of trash can come from exploitation and fishing activities of fishermen or local tourism activities. Through the trip, SOLEN wants to spread environmental protection awareness to the community.

3. Cần làm gì để bảo vệ môi trường biển?
To protect the marine environment we need more practical activities. In addition to propaganda work to raise awareness for the community, encouraging socialization of environmental protection work also needs to be paid attention by the government. However, effectively solving the problem of coastal environmental pollution in Xuan Thuy National Park – Nam Dinh as well as other coastal areas requires the synchronous participation of all levels, sectors, and organizations, and the awareness of each citizen.
